Information about Gift Aid

As part of the support provided by Crowdacure in your fundraising campaign, we reclaim Gift Aid on your behalf for donations made by UK tax payers.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows UK charities to reclaim an extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation made by a UK taxpayer.

How much is Gift Aid worth?

Gift Aid allows us to claim back 25p for every £1 you give to our campaign, boosting the value of your donation by a quarter. So if you donated £100 to a Crowdacure campaign, thanks to Gift Aid, you’ll actually be giving to the campaign at least £125. Claiming Gift Aid means that more money can be raised at no extra cost to the donors.

This is because, when a UK taxpayer gives a gift of money to a charity, tax has already been paid on that money.

What do I need to do (Only for Donors)?

All we need from you is permission to reclaim the tax you have paid to HMRC. When you donate a gift of money to support a Crowdacure campaign you will be asked to confirm if you are a UK tax payer (a tick box is used). Moreover, when you make a donation we will ask you to provide minimum information required for us to be able to claim Gift Aid on a donation (an online form is used). The information are the following:

Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

Higher Rate Tax Payers and Gift Aid

If you pay tax at the higher rate, you can reclaim tax relief on your gross donation at 20% (i.e. the difference between the higher rate of tax at 40% and the basic rate at 20%). As an example if you donate £100 to a Crowdacure campaign, thanks to Gift Aid your donation worths £125. You pay 40% tax so you can personally claim back £25.00 (£125 x 20%).
