The PLAN

Do you know somebody who had a Stroke? Cancer? Trauma? Phantom limb pain? If the answer is yes,

then you know how these can destroy lives. What if I told you it could be different? What if I told you that

considering the devastation associated with these diseases, we didn't try hard enough? Lack of funding leaves

cures we all might need under-researched.

WE HAVE A PLAN:

1 Focus on underfunded medical research

2 Raise funding for projects rather than for a cause to optimise the efficiency of funding

3 Change the mechanism by which funding is prioritised. By involving the crowd in
funding medical research we will disrupt medical progress.

We at Crowdacure are passionate about people. We believe that lack of progress in medicine is a tragedy
and it needs a plan to challenge the fundamentals. The present system has generated very little progress.
It will take centuries to tackle the problem, unless we bring a major change.
OUR PLAN
1 CHANGE THE FOCUS:
We focus our organisation on hard
to fund and underfunded medical
research to make sure that donations are
channelled where it is most needed (when
comparing the burden of a disease with the
available funding for research). The funding
hardship of each project will be assessed by
experts and communicated to the public as
part of the peer review outcome.
2 WE RAISE FUNDING FOR
RESEARCH PROJECTS RATHER
THAN FOR A DISEASE: as an
example, we don't raise funding for research
in firstline treatment of prostate cancer. Instead
we will raise for a research project ran at UCL
Hospital by Dr Dupont and his team. They will
analyse the patients' DNA to research how does
prostate cancer resist to radiotherapy. This may
lead to find ways to improve radiotherapy as a
treatment or to find another treatment instead.
3 CHANGE THE MECHANISMS BEHIND
FUNDING DECISIONS: Traditionally, funding
decisions are made by professional teams in
government organisations, charities or pharmaceutical
companies. But as medicine serves people, people should
be involved hands on. We bring you on board and make
you a stakeholder in medicine.
CROWDACURE, IT IS YOUR STORY IN THE WORLD OF MEDICAL PROGRESS, YOUR IMPACT.

IMPACT THROUGH TRANSPARENCY

DID YOU WANT TO IMPACT THE MEDICAL RESEARCH AGENDA? PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT IN THE MEDICAL RESEARCH
AGENDA REACHES NEW LEVELS OF TRANSPARENCY THANKS TO CROWDACURE
Transparency when donating to medical research means knowing to whom and what you donate to. It means the
information material is easy to find. It is inviting, easy to read and understand. It is relevant and allows
you to make an educated decision about your donation. After your donation, you know exactly how you contributed
to medical progress.

GIVING YOU ACCESS TO IMPACT

(1) Access to projects in underfunded medical research: CROWDACURE dedicated platform will present you research projects that are hard to fund, allowing you to have a higher impact through your donation. Typically these are research projects you wouldn’t find otherwise.

(2) Access to an educated and transparent donation pathway: By educated donation, we mean you have access to the necessary information to make an educated decision when making a donation decision. Thanks to an easy, informative and transparent process, you are able to be involved hands-on in medical progress. You will drive your donation to make the impact you wish for.

(3) Access to information: see below

THROUGH INFORMATION, YOU CHOSE YOUR IMPACT

Transparent, interesting, easy to read and inviting information is available and accessible to all
on Crowdacure platform. For the first time the public knows what he donates to even if he doesn't donate.

THROUGH THE PEER REVIEW

To fully empower you in your donation, we give you access to the experts' review of the projects.
Like in the real world, the projects will be assessed for quality and funding hardship by experts (peer-review)
before accessing Crowdacure platform. The outcome of this peer-review will be shared with you in an easy to
understand format.

THROUGH COMMUNICATION

Campaigners will communicate all relevant information on their project: why,
how, when, deliverables and costs
FURTHER ANSWERS

Can really the public make decisions what research project should be funded?

At Crowdacure we believe that if medicine is to serve you, us, then you should be involved in research in medicine.
We believe that people, patients, their carers, know. There is no way to assume that researchers and even doctors
know better than people themselves what is needed. A condition for this assumption is that you receive all the
information you need in a format that is accessible- which Crowdacure is trying to do.
Further, Crowdacure makes also sure that the outcome of the peer-review is shared in transparency with you.

How am I going to make a great impact.

Your donation or support will proportionally have more impact on Crowdacure than otherwise, since
donated to projects that are hard to fund or in underfunded fields of medicine. Second, crowdfunding
will raise awareness about underfunded medical research and its unacceptable consequences.
Your donations in the context of crowdfunding will generate activity in previously neglected areas of
medicine. Both being an expression of your choice will influence governments, pharmaceutical companies
and charities, and eventually lead to better distribution of resources.

Isn’t this the role of governments or pharmaceutical industry?

Even if governments increased their medical research budget they will still allocate the monies following the rules that
prevail today. One can presume that whatever the mechanism it ends up to a matter of share of voice and leaving it to
governments won’t change the share of voice reality.
Would you leave this to others?
Let me take just one example: who knows, who among us will have in 3 years from now a car accident and close to dead on the
road. In 2007, 60% of patients admitted to the Royal London Hospital Major Trauma Center severely injured hemorrhaging died.
In 2014 this number fell to 30%, thanks to research. Twice less. No doubt, I want these people to continue do their job:
save lives. I want to have in 3 years from now twice less chance to die than in 2014. And you?
